Ride Of The Week 08/28/2023: Brent Maletic's 1984 Monte Carlo SS

Updated: Sep 1, 2023

THE FULL MONTE

Brent Maletic is a Car Show Life Customer. I’ve had the pleasure of doing show boards for both of his rides. One was for his 2013 Camaro Hot Wheels Edition and two for his 1984 Monte Carlo SS. I say two, because we went back to create a story board to tell the odyssey that this car went on between 2021 and 2023. Here’s Brent with the story of that long road:

“Having wanted one since my high school years in the 80's, I bought this 1984 Monte Carlo SS on Sept 18, 1992, as second car or weekend toy. After entering its first car show, it took second place in the Stock 1980-93 class and was elevated from weekend toy to show car!

In the summer of 2021 with the former 305 H.O. motor getting a bit tired and the running gear showing signs of age, it was time to either sell it or resto-mod it. Since the body & paint were in great condition, I decided to replace or rebuild everything under the hood and upgrade the drivetrain, suspension, brakes and interior. I found a Pittsburgh hotrod shop that could complete the build under one roof, but they were in the process of relocating to Florida. So, the car spent 10 months in Punta Gorda, FL.

On Sept 9, 2022, it was back in my driveway, and everything appeared to be completed to my expectations. After only a few days the car developed a fuel system issue. After this kind of investment, I had no recourse but to send the car back where the work was done, right in the path of Hurricane Ian! The shop took a near direct hit. Thankfully the car was put on a four-post lift which saved it from major damage when the large garage door collapsed onto the car. It escaped with only paint damage and cracked the rear spoiler. I had it transported north to a shop near Wheeling, WV that could convert it to EFI and perform the paint and body repairs.”

Brent went through an emotional wringer over the course of the two years it took to get the car completed, but it looks great and performs even better! So glad we could tell the story of your ride!
