SEA-BURBAN
When I saw this creation being towed into the basement of Huntington Place for Autorama Extreme, I knew right away this had to be a story I told in our Ride Of The Week Feature. This mashup of a 1999 Chevy Suburban and a 1986 Seastar is the brainchild of Brent and Chris Ankney from Jackson, MI.
They traded the boat for a $200 Impala as kind of a joke. After a lot of thinking they figured out how to fit the marry the hull to the Suburban chassis. It only took 7 months to complete the build and it is completely road-worthy. However this boat don’t float, so there’ll be no days on the lake in the upper peninsula. While it won't cruise the high seas, it's cruised plenty on the highway, completed several 500-plus mile road trips and they drive it all over.
The SEA-BURBAN is powered by the original 350 Chevy TPI with over 200,000 miles on it. There’s a 4” lift for the wheels to clear the hull. It has just about all of the factory features of the ’99 Suburban installed: Cruise Control, Power front seats, heat and just like the donor truck, seating for 8.
