Ride Of The Week 01/30/2023: Celena & Brian Ruth's 1972 Chevelle

FAMILY OWNED SINCE 1972 (give or take a few years)

The stripes on this 1972 Chevelle grabbed my attention across the show field at the 2022 GM Nationals in Carlisle, PA. Finished in Midnight Bronze with a Light Covert Vinyl Top and Matching interior, its key features were the custom airbrushed stripes.

When I asked about them, the brother and sister owners, Celena and Brian Ruth of Hanover, PA said that when their dad bought the car in ’72 from Shultz Chevrolet, their mom didn’t like how stark the white stripes looked against the bronze finish. She took some lace to a local body shop and had them airbrush the golden hues into the factory stripes.

When their parents divorced in the mid-80s, their dad retained the car until 2015 when he sold it to his neighbor’s father. In 2019, after his father’s passing, their dad’s neighbor wanted to sell it back to him. However, Mr. Ruth was diagnosed with cancer and wasn’t well enough to make the transaction.

Shortly after their father’s funeral, the neighbor approached Celena and Brian about getting the car back. After a few months, the deal was done, and it was back in the hands of the Ruth family where it will remain.
